Weight training is often seen as a ‘guys thing’. Women don’t want to be bulky, big-shouldered and hard – we want to be curvaceous and slim. However, weight training is actually a critical part of your journey to slim curvaceousness! Here are the myths and facts about weight training for women.
Myth: If women lift weights, they start to look like female bodybuilders
This just doesn’t happen. Your body only produces those enormous muscles in a high-testosterone environment… and unless you’re taking anabolic steroids, you’re unlikely to get that ‘bulky’ look. Female bodybuilders have genetics that are a rarity in the ‘female kingdon’.
Myth: Weight training reduces a woman’s flexibility
Again, the only time weight training is likely to reduce your flexibility is if you gain the sort of bulky muscle that usually only comes (in girls) by taking illegal drugs.
Myth: Weight training can make your breasts larger
Weight training might make the shape of your breasts slightly different, but given that the largest component of your breasts is fat and milk-producing tissue, the most reliable way to make your breasts bigger is to get fat! The lesson is – learn to love them as they are.
Truth
Weight training for women helps you lose weight, improve circulation, balance hormone levels, gives you more energy… and when you can hold your own in a ticklefight with your boyfriend, gives you an amazing confidence boost!
